Things Have to Get Worse..

I'm sure everyone has heard the saying, "Things have to get worse before they can get better." Well, that's how I feel it is going to be during the next months. I decided to go back to school to learn different and better teaching techniques and force myself to learn new computer applications to enhance my students' learning and kick up my teaching skills. If future classes are going to be as informative and motivating as Instructional Design with Dr. Monson, I made the right choice. This class has renewed my spirit to teach and reminded me that I am here for the students, the students are not here for me. However, what I didn't plan on was the time it was going to take to complete all the class assignments, which in turn is stealing time from putting all my new knowledge and skills into action; some of the new ideas will have to wait to be instituted until I graduate from the program. So watch out students of 2011-2012, here comes the new and improved me.

Kathy,
I totally relate to what you are saying. I have learned so much valuable information but I am hanging on a thread trying to keep up. What's wrong with this picture? - We have spent so much time learning what to do that now we don't have enough time to do it.

I was thinking about that tonight while working through the stuff for tomorrow: the immediate effect that it has had on my teaching is that I tend to look at an item, decide how well it has been going in years past and then take an hour to work it over if I really think I can clarify what it is that needs doing. And the occasions where I have had time, it has been worth the effort. Though your both right. For the most part there is very little left right now.

Nice job on the presentation. Now, if I just had time to do a podcast.

Maybe the goal is not to try to do it now but to alalyze it and incorporate it later...? Good luck!

I know how you feel! I swear I am just surviving moment to moment. Thank goodness for a supportive family (and husband who doesn't complain if he has to dig through baskets of unfolded laundry to find socks. . .) Just give it a few more semesters, and I really hope we'll all feel like ourselves again!!

I think we can all relate! Taking on school again is a big adjustment! And there is definitely some irony in learning how to be a better teacher, but not being to implement it because you have to devote your free time to homework.
